The Nigerian Young Professionals Forum (NYPsF) on Irrigation and Drainage is a specialized initiative focused on engaging young professionals (YPs) in the fields of irrigation, drainage, and related water management sectors. It is basically the youth wing of the Nigeria National Committee of Irrigation and Drainage (NINCID) which was officially inaugurated during the retreat organized by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage in September 2019.
The inauguration was informed by the resolution from the 3rd World Irrigation Forum held in Indonesia. In the interim, the forum is headed by a National Coordinator/Chairman, supported by Secretary and Public Relation Officer.
The Young Professionals Forum (YPF) on Irrigation and Drainage is a specialized initiative focused on engaging young professionals (YPs) in the fields of irrigation, drainage, and related water management sectors. The forum activities is majorly web base and leveraging on the various social media platforms for professional engagements like webinars and other professional interactions. The WhatsApp Group of the forum currently have about 200 active participants and still growing.

Several members have participated in most of the ICID Young Professionals Workshops at both the African Regional and the International level, of most recent is in Marrakech, Morocco (2021) and Visakhapatnam, India (2023) respectively. In this regard, the NYPsF is proposing a 3 day pre- 7th African Regional Congress come April, 2025 in Abuja. Details of this workshop will be made public once arrangements are concluded.
The forum aims at engaging, inspiring, and empowering YPs in the water sector in the following areas:
Activities under this forum include conferences, seminars, webinars, and field trips, often organized in collaboration with established organizations in the water sector. Participants typically gain exposure to the latest trends, technologies, and strategies in irrigation and drainage, contributing to their professional growth and the advancement of the sector. Several members had participated in most of the ICID Young Professionals Workshops at both the African Region and nations across the globe, of most recent is in Visakhapatnam, India 2023)with the theme “Managing Water Resources Towards Achieving Water Security For Improved Livelihood and sustainability “and in Marrakech, Morocco (2021) with the theme “Micro Irrigation to Mitigate Impact of Climate Change” respectively.
This initiative of having YPs workshop before the conference is a trend that has offered the National Committee ease of organizing International workshops and hence integrating youths from different member countries to achieve amongst the ICID vision of mentorship. Accordingly, the NYPsF is proposing a 3 day pre- 6thAfrican Regional Conference; Training Workshop with the theme “Application of Geo Spatial Systems, AI for Sustainable Irrigated Agriculture” from 11th – 13th April 2025 in Abuja Continental Hotel, with.
