CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The African Regional Working Group (AFRWG) of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) and the Nigerian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (NINCID) are pleased to invite submission of abstracts for the 6th African Regional Conference on Irrigation and Drainage (6th ARCID) to be held in Abuja, Nigeria from 14th to 18th April 2025.

Authors are requested to register and create their Conference profile through the portal and then login. Once an account is established, authors may lodge their abstracts to their selected Sub-theme. If you have multiple submissions, please process one abstract at a time.

Online portal closes for submission of abstracts on 15th September 2024.

For uniformity and ease of processing, authors are advised to follow the following format:

Title of Paper (not more than 12 words)

Authors Name (First name, Middle name and Surname) followed by Suffix and email address (In case of multiple authors, indicate the corresponding author)

Authors’ Addresses (Use superscript on all authors and list their address)

Text of the Abstract (not more than 350 words)

Keywords (separated by commas and a period at the end)

Conference Main Theme:

Tackling Irrigation Development and Water Management Crises in Africa.

Sub-themes:

A. Creating Awareness – Advocacy and managing farmers’ behaviour. Youth engagement. Policy and governance of irrigation systems. Public perception and stakeholder engagement in irrigation management.

B. Emerging and Appropriate Technology and Innovation – Smart irrigation machinery and equipment (sensors, drones and cloud computing. Artificial Intelligence in Irrigation. Adaptive/Innovative research and practices in irrigation techniques.Urban agriculture, vertical gardens (hydroponics, Aeroponics)

C. Trans-boundary Water Resources Management and Security Challenges Construction of big dams and water diversion. Trans- boundary water policies, conflicts and politics, Water security challenges and management strategies.

D. Wastewater Recycling and Reuse Wastewater treatment techniques. Tail water Reuse. Quality monitoring. Crop adaptability and health issues. Compliance with regulatory standard.

E. Climate Change, Sustainability and Biodiversity Climate change resilience and adaptation. Sustainable resource use. Biodiversity protection, Renewable energy and Energy efficiency in irrigation. Community engagement and participation.

F. Regulatory Framework – Data-driven regulatory policy development. Stakeholder mobilization and implementation. Irrigation water governance and economic viability.

G. Public-Private-Partnership (PPP): Policies and Practices – Policy formulation and implementation. Investment and financing of large irrigation infrastructure. Partnerships for stakeholder engagement operation and maintenance. Capacity building and training. Sustainability and resilience in PPPs.

Each paper will go through a full peer-review process following the set procedures and guidelines.
